Almost 20 people regained their sight after more than 10 years of blindness through free surgery in Katsina State- S.A Ibrahim Zakari
No fewer than 2500 patients were screened out of which 520 were
operated on among whom were 7 year-old twins and 9 months-old baby have
regained their sight after a successful surgery conducted by the team of
medical Doctor's from King Saud Medical City/ WAMY Riyadh, Saudi
Arabia, those who were not operated on were given medication to treat
the milder cases numbering over a thousand.
This was disclosed to our reporter by Ibrahim Bala, the Personal
Assistant to the Special Adviser on International Relations and
Investments, Alhaji Ibrahim Zakari shortly after the closing ceremony of
the program in the State.
While speaking at the closing ceremony, the Governor of Katsina State
Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari who was represented by the Secretary to the
Government of the State (SGS), Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, The Head
of the Riyadh medical Dr. Samir Monssour thanked the Special Adviser on
International Relations and Investments, Alhaji Ibrahim Zakari for using
his personal contacts and influence in facilitating the coming of the
12 surgeons to Katsina State.
He further stressed the current government commitments by providing
befitting health care services to Katsina residents which is not limited
to just the indigenes of the state. Ibrahim Zakari also appreciated the
Doctor's dedication and resilience which helped in attaining the
desired successes achieved all at FREE of CHARGE.
During the closing ceremony, the team of the doctors who conducted
the surgeries also presented awards to the State Governor, Deputy
Governor, SGS, S.A Ibrahim Zakari and the Commissioner of Health for
making their stay in the state hitch free. They also distributed cash
for assistance to the tune of over N2m to all the 47 staffs of the
Katsina Eye Centre who facilitated in the smooth conduct of the exercise
as parting gift.
Some of the beneficiaries of the free surgery who spoke with our
reporter could not hide their joy as they thanked Ibrahim Zakari and
also the team of doctors for helping them regain their sight after a
very long time.
Ibrahim Bala, the Personal Assistant to the Special Adviser who was
with the Doctor's since they arrived in Nigeria said, we are proud of
the surgeons. They performed much more than what we expected. He said
the S.A has invited them to come back to the State to perform FREE
general surgeries such as VVF, appendix, hernia amongst others. They
promised to be back with over 30 surgeons in about 4 months to perform
yet again free medical surgeries.
