One Dead, Two Seriously Injured After An Alleged Gas Explosion In Belgium

One person has been killed and two more seriously injured after an explosion at a sports centre in Belgium. A “powerful blast” was reported at the Plaine Chalon community centre in Chimay, which is about 100km south of the capital Brussels, at around midnight.

Chimay Police Chief Pierre Maton has said that the blast was most likely “a gas explostion.” Another official confirmed that five people were in the building at the time, with two victims only slightly injured. Another local official confirmed a large section of the building had collapsed.

Police have said they believe they have retrieved everyone from the building. An investigation into the cause is still underway.
